SceneCaster is a new 3D social media application and online community where anyone can create interactive 3D scenes in their browser and then publish them for review, revision and rewards. Featuring integration with Google’s 3D Warehouse, SceneCaster simplifies the process of creating and modifying 3D content on the Web. Built for the mass market, SceneCaster extends the rich 3D visual experience of virtual worlds beyond pure entertainment to deliver contextual advertising and online purchasing opportunities.
Market Opportunity
Over 20% of global Internet users have visited a social networking site in the past 30 days, reported Ipsos Insight in 2007. According to Gartner, 80% of Internet users will experience a “virtual life” by 2011. DFC Intelligence says that virtual world revenues will reach $6 billion by 2012. The market for 2D & 3D design software is believed to be greater than 25 million users; the 3D Market value is estimated at U.S. $11.5 billion and is expected to grow to 500 million users, according to Autodesk Investor.
Demo Says
As virtual worlds become comfortable hangouts for increasing numbers of consumers, these 3D environments begin to set expectations for what people should be able to create themselves. Until now, though, the tools to create 3D worlds have been elusive to the typical consumer. SceneCaster provides an easy-to-use pallet of 3D objects and environments, and opens up new possibilities for user-generated content. Indeed, SceneCaster makes 3D mainstream on the Web.
